Flow of Books

Libraries, schools, foundations, and nonprofit organizations can all play a part in making sure every child has sustained access to an abundance of relevant books, both print and digital.

Local, Cultural Content

Children need to see themselves, their families, and their communities in the books they read. They need to hear the words read in their home language, as well as in English. Books that families can relate to are intrinsically more meaningful and memorable.

Picture books offer an inherently powerful tool to explore identity and equity with children. Unite books are original, mostly non-fiction picture books created by authors, photographers, and artists with diverse backgrounds, interests, and expertise. The books portray people who are self-empowered and competent individuals with agency and autonomy, along with their cultural, gender, and socio-economic identities or abilities.
